Boss SY-1000 Guitar Synthesizer
Descrizione
Ever since the '70s, both Boss and parent company Roland have been known as pioneers in the world of guitar synthesizers. The SY-1000 Guitar Synthesizer is the next advancement of their renowned GK Series. The new Sound Engine and high-performance DSP give you the contemporary cream of the crop in terms of sound quality and creative options. To give you an idea, the digital signal processor inside the SY-1000 is six times as fast as the one packed inside the SY-300! Not only does it allow for lightning-fast response but surgically precise playing.
The SY-1000: At least Three Synths for Guitar And Bass
This Boss synth caters to both guitarists and bassists and while it's of course possible to hook up your string instrument using a TS jack cable, you may want to consider an optional GK pickup to pull every last bit of sonic potential out of the SY-1000. Three synths are served up for each instrument and the first two - the Dynamic and OSC synths - can be selected as a mode. The Dynamic Synth is based on state-of-the-art guitar synthesis technology and offers the choice between 10 wave forms that can be tweaked to taste via 2 LFOs, 6 filters, 2 step sequencers and the amp control section, while the OSC boasts a more analogue character for more grip on ADSR and a wealth of filters. In addition, Boss have loaded in the GR-300 and ANALOG GR synths for respectively guitar and bass.
Even More Options And Usability For Electric and Acoustic Guitars and Basses
We haven't even mentioned the abundance of choice when it comes to modelling. Both electric guitars and basses as well as their acoustic counterparts are accommodated by this Boss pedal and for each of these instruments there's special amplifier modelling on board. Synth and string instrument sounds can naturally be freely mixed and even the tuning can be virtually changed up as needed. Fire up VIO modelling to turn your plectrum into a violin bow or easily pepper your sound with one of the five Poly-FX. If you combine it with one or more dependable Boss footswitches (not included), you won't simply be stepping into a new world of sound, but an entire universe.

The SY1000 has loads of functionality and delivers with strong vintage synth sounds. Also I was particularly impressed with the guitar to MIDI feature which works better than I had hoped. Downsides are the complexity of set up and editing and the lack of some obvious pre-sets for decent strings, flute, organ and piano sounds. The SY1000 synth waveforms don't really allow for this and, although you can always use guitar to MIDI into a sampled waveform synth to achieve the aim, it means more gear - making it less suitable for live use in a covers band where these sounds are often needed.
